Composer Arlen Clarke Featured on March 14!
Music in the Round, Allegro’s newest offering, has quickly become a crowd favorite! Our March 14 concert will feature the music of Bach, Handel and Albinoni, and also the music of a living composer: Arlen Clarke. Enjoy this interview with Clarke by Allegro’s newest intern, Seth Eckman!
‘I am an orchestral composer because it’s a mountain that many attempt to scale, but few conquer,’ explained Clarke. ‘So far, I am someplace in the foothills of the ascent.’
Clarke’s journey continues on March 14th at the Ware Center with the performance of one of his works by the Allegro Chamber Orchestra. Clarke has history with Allegro, previously working with them in 2006 and 2007.
‘Collaborating with Dr. Brian Norcross [Allegro Conductor] has been nothing short of delightful,’ said Clarke. ‘He is measured, reasonable, and the consummate professional. This admiration extends to his orchestra, Allegro.’
‘I just wanted to know what I might do with a string orchestra and a ‘celtic’ sound,’ explained Clarke. ‘I enjoyed playing with the different colors of an orchestra…There was really no intention behind it than to make ‘play’ of the music.’
Regardless of what musical endeavor he decides to take on, Clarke remains humble. And grateful.
‘The bottom line is that I enjoy all aspects of making music,’ said Clarke. ‘I am fortunate to be able to do all of the above with a very comfortable salary. Life is good.’
